Retirement Party Event Design – Three Ideas For a Memorable Evening

May 1, 2014

Retirement parties are meant to be memorable events where everyone gathers to honor someone who is finally ready to move on to a new phase in life. After so many years of dedicated service, a retirement party needs to be a well-crafted and beautifully designed event because the way you put everything together will speak volumes for how everyone feels about the person being honored.

Retirement party even design involves taking into consideration what best reflects the interests of the person being honored. For example, the person retiring may be a life-long fan of Hello Kitty and always had her desk decorated to reflect this. While you may not want to focus solely on the Hello Kitty brand, you can borrow from the color palette of pinks, creamy whites, and black lines. These colors would then be reflected in your table linens and centerpieces.

Here are three ideas for retirement party event design themes that you may choose to implement:

1. Art Deco 1920’s Design – For the classy individual with an obscure wild side, you can channel the glamour of the 20’s with shades of black, white, silver and gold. They can look something like this:

2. The Tea Party – This calls for more vibrant colors that evoke the feeling of afternoon tea in a beautiful garden. Deep shades of mauve and royal purple in the floral design will make guests feel elegant while bright pink linens will keep the atmosphere fun. In a way, you are almost evoking the magic of the Alice in Wonderland tea party, except with none of the mayhem. This is ideal for a fun colleague who always has a positive and quirky disposition. 3. An Evening on the Mediterranean – Channel the flavors of red wine, lemons, and spices in order to achieve a color palette that will not only make everyone feel they have suddenly left the country, but will make their mouths water. Your centerpieces can have green grapes and sprigs of lavender. Decor might include tapestries of burgundy and gold made richer by candle light.

Those are just a few ways you can make a retirement party more unique than the standard banquet hall event. As soon as you choose a theme, you’ll find it easy to put together the elements (centerpieces, linens, lighting, and floral design) that help make it a night to remember.
